Recent developments at PFM Blue Auckland office has seen 2 Mercedes ML270s fitted with GP06 units Both vehicles are identical and this fitment will allow
us to accurately do fuel consumption comparison.
The ML270 is fitted with Mercedes OM612 engine these engines are a straight-5 2,7L diesel engine produced by Daimler AG ,today Mercedes-Benz.
The engine was introduced in 1999 for the 2000 year model in a 170 PS (125 kW; 168 hp) version for the W210 E-Class, W211 E-Class, W163 ML-Class, W203 C-Class, and W209 CLK-Class .
Early indicators that there is a permanent fuel saving of 12-15% being achieved. Without units fitted the ML270 were consuming 10.5-11 litres of Diesel per 100kms,
Our last months running has shown an improvement to 8.5 litrs per 100km.
In addition these engines are running cleaner and quiter with filter changes able to be extended by 40% of the filter life cycle.
The engines are DI (Direct Injection and are very representative of used in the second tier vehicle market in courier vans and recreational vehicles.
Over the next 12 months we will also be monitoring the emissions levels and the performance of both vehicles. We have a dedicated R&D programme which will help us provide feedback to our customers and Resellers.
Very importantly as the Mercedes have a learning ECU in the driver patterns are not so critical to maintain the fuel savings.
Keep monitoring this space and we will continue to bring you updates on the trial
