Customer Use Case: Motor Yacht “Hey Jude”
The “Hey Jude” is a 44-metre motor yacht built by Alloy Yachts in 2014. During its 10-year survey, it was discovered that the vessel had 23,000 litres of diesel fuel infected with microbial growth, commonly referred to as “fuel bug.”
The contaminated fuel posed a significant risk to the yacht’s engines and associated systems, requiring immediate attention to avoid damage and ensure reliable operation.
Initial Findings: Both the port and starboard aft tanks had high contamination levels.
PFM Blue Intervention: PFM Blue treated and polished the contaminated fuel, aiming to recover as much diesel as possible and return it to a grade A standard. The following steps were taken:
Port Aft Tank to font port tank Treatment:
20,000 litres of diesel were polished and transferred from the starboard aft tank to the port tank Aft Tank. The port aft tank was emptied and cleaned thoroughly, and the polished diesel was returned in A Grade condition.
Results and Benefits:
• Fuel Recovery: Successfully treated and polished 20,000 litres of diesel, significantly reducing the need for fuel disposal and replacement.
• Cost Savings: Avoided the high costs associated with disposing of contaminated fuel and purchasing new diesel.
• Operational Efficiency: Ensured that the yacht’s fuel systems were restored to optimal condition, supporting reliable operation post-survey.
This case study highlights the critical role of regular fuel maintenance and the effectiveness of PFM Blue’s fuel polishing and cleaning solutions in recovering and restoring contaminated diesel fuel.
